Miller City scores in ninth to defeat Bulldogs

COLUMBUS GROVE - Miller City scored a run in the ninth inning Wednesday to defeat Columbus Grove 7-6 in Putnam County League action.
After Columbus Grove scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 5-5, both teams scored a run in the eighth inning. The Wildcats pushed across a run in the ninth inning and made it stand up for the win.
Adam Drummelsmith (1-1) picked up the win for the Wildcats as he worked three innings in relief of starter Jackson Lammers. Drummelsmith allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Lammers allowed five runs, two earned, on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Ross Lehman belted a home run for the Wildcats, while Drummelsmith had two singles, a double and two RBI. Hunter Berner, Corbin Niese and Jeremy Balbaugh all had a single and double for Miller City (2-0, 5-2).
Elisha Jones took the loss for Columbus Grove as he went 3 2/3 innings allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Josh Verhoff started and went 5 1/3 innings allowing five runs, two earned, on seven hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Jake Utendorf had three singles for the Bulldogs (2-1, 3-4), while Reid Stechschulte had two singles. Verhoff and Marcos Olivio both had a single.
Hardin Northern 1
DOLA — Pandora-Gilboa pitcher Brian Schneck scattered 10 hits Wednesday afternoon as the Rockets downed Hardin Northern 10-1 in Blanchard Valley Conference action.
The Polar Bears banged out 10 hits against Schneck, but managed just one run in the game as they stranded 11 base runners. Schneck struck out 12 Polar Bear batters and walked one in going the distance for the win.
P-G took the lead with two runs in the first inning, then added two runs in the third inning. After the Polar Bears scored in the bottom of the third, the Rockets came back with four runs in the fourth inning.
Reed Hovest had three hits for the Rockets and two RBI. Jared Tousley had two hits and three RBI for P-G and Jacob Basinger had a hit and three RBI. Schneck, Dustin Rieman and Matt Goedde all had two hits for the Rockets.
Jacob Gossard took the loss for Hardin Northern as he allowed 10 runs on 13 hits with eight strikeouts and four walks.
Kyle Lamb had three hits for the Polar Bears and Gossard had two hits.
BLUFFTON — Bluffton scored a run in the fourth inning to defeat Ottoville 2-1 in non-league action.
After both teams scored in the third inning, the Pirates scored a run in the bottom of the fourth and made it stand up.
Alex Horstman took the loss for Ottoville as he went the distance allowing two runs on seven hits. He had six strikeouts and walked three.
Brandon Boecker had two hits for the Big Green. Horstman drove in Ottoville's lone run.
Zak Kuhlman picked up the win for Bluffton as he allowed one run on six hits with six strikeouts.
Austin Bricker had three hits for the Pirates and Kuhlman had two hits.
LEIPSIC — Leipsic scored six times in the fifth inning on their way to an 8-0 Blanchard Valley Conference win over Vanlue.
The Vikings had a 1-0 lead going to the fifth when they erupted for six runs.
Dylan Schey (1-1) picked up the win for the Vikings as he didn't allow a run on four hits.
Gavin Cupp had two singles and two RBIs for Leipsic (1-0, 3-5). Justin Ellerbrock and Pierce Henry both had two hits for the Vikings.
