DEFIANCE - Ottawa-Glandorf's Matias Trampe-Kindt opened the 2013 cross country season with a win Saturday morning at the Defiance Early Bird Open.Trampe-Kindt won the Defiance Open crossing the finish line in a time of 16:22.91, which bettered his school record time of 16:23 set at the Division II state meet last season. Wauseon's Quintin Reiser was second in 16:24.81.
Titan freshman Tyler Balbaugh finished 54th in 19:21.47 and junior Chris Hyman was 56th in 19:25.41.
On the girls side, O-G's Jenny Meyer finished 42nd in 23:03 and Jill Rosselit was 65th in 24:22.
No team scores were kept for the meet.
Grove boys fourth at Delphos Invitational
DELPHOS - Columbus Grove's boys cross country team finished fourth at the Delphos Invitational Saturday morning.
The Bulldogs finished fourth with 95 points. New Bremen won the event with 60 points and Anna was second with 66 points. Lincolnview finished third with 70 points.
Kalida finished ninth in the 16 team field with 293 points, while Ottoville was 14th with 359 points.
The Bulldogs Colton Grothaus paced the local runners finishing fourth in a time of 17:06. Grove's Logan Douglas managed a top 20 finish as he crossed the finish line in 18:01.
On the girls side, Kalida led the local teams with a fifth place finish with 146 points and Columbus Grove was right behind them in sixth place (161). Pandora-Gilboa finished ninth with 218 points.
Liberty-Benton won the girls team title with just 30 points and Spencerville was second with 77 points.
Kalida sophomore Katelyn Siebeneck finished second overall with a time of 20:11.7 as Spencerville's Karri Purdy won the race in 20:11.46. Pandora-Gilboa's Vanessa McCullough finished 11th in 21:17 and Breana Hovest was 12th in 21:21. Kalida's Jackie Gardner finished 16th in 22:02 and Alexis Ricker was 17th for the Bulldogs in 22:05.
In the boys junior high race, Ottoville's Brendon Siefker was the winner crossing the finish line in 11:10.67, just in front of Lincolnview's Calahan Wolfrum in 11:10.93.
