MILLER CITY - Ottawa-Glandorf scored three times in the sixth inning Sunday afternoon to defeat Holgate 8-6 in the ACME sectional tournament at Miller City.
The Titans advanced in the tournament to face Leipsic Monday evening at 6 p.m. in Miller City. This game was postponed Sunday due to thunderstorms that moved across the area.
O-G had a 5-1 lead before the Tigers scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to come within 5-4. The Titans responded to the Tigers challenge by scoring three times in the top of the sixth.
Ryan Maas ignited the Titan rally by working a walk and stealing second base. After an out, Chandler Kersh lined a triple to right-center field that scored Maas. Austin Verhoff followed with a single to left and Ben Deitering followed with a double to right field. A sacrifice fly by Andrew Wischmeyer gave the Titans an 8-4 lead.
Holgate made things interesting as they scored twice in the bottom of the seventh before a strikeout ended the threat.
Deitering picked up the win for O-G, while Maas recorded a save working the final 2 1/3 innings. Maas had four strikeouts in his time on the mound.
Verhoff had three hits in the game for the Titans, while Maas and Kersh both had two hits.
Everett Klingsman took the loss for Holgate. Jarod Stober, Klingsman, Matt Westrick and Sean Mack all had two hits for the Tigers.
The Tigers advanced in the losers bracket with a 22-8 win over Kalida in a losers bracket game that finished Sunday after rain suspended the game Saturday.
