CHILLICOTHE — Ottawa's American Legion baseball team picked up Friday afternoon where they left off last weekend.
After winning the TAWA Run Classic, Post 63 kept the momentum going with two wins to start this weekends tournament in Chillicothe. Ottawa started the tournament with a 7-0 win over Greenville, then returned to the field to defeat Piqua 8-1.
In the opener, Post 63 jumped on top quickly scoring two times in the bottom of the first inning and adding three runs in the second inning.
The early runs were enough for three Ottawa pitchers as they combined on a one hitter. Wes Rickenberg picked up the win as he pitched three hitless innings with three strikeouts, but he walked four. Chandler Kresh worked 1 2/3 innings giving up Greenville's only hit, while Matt Warnecke recordd a save working 1 1/3 innings.
Drew Schierloh led Ottawa at the plate with three hits and an RBI, while Tyler Zender had two hits and two RBIs. Blake Hoffman had a hit and two RBIs as Post 63 banged out 12 hits in the win.
In the second game, Clay Grubb turned in a solid performance on the mound as he recorded the win going the distance allowing one run on five hits with 10 strikeouts.
Ottawa took control of this game with a six run second inning. Piqua scored their only run in the bottom of the second.
Brandon Benroth and Trent Phillips both had two hits and an RBI for Post 63.  Jacob Lerch had a double and two RBIs and Zender had a double and an RBI.
Ottawa is back in action Saturday as they face Lancaster at 9 a.m. and Stuebenville at noon. Post 63 is now 7-3 on the season.
