OTTOVILLE - Continental saw its season come to a close on Thursday night as the lady Pirates dropped a straight set contest to Crestview in Division IV action at Ottoville High School.
The lady Knights moved to 16-7 on the season by defeating the Pirates by scores of 25-2, 25-8 and 25-9.
Crestview will now play Wayne Trace (15-8), a five-set winner over Kalida in the second semi-final, in the second sectional championship Saturday night at Ottoville.
In the first set, the lady Knights got 20 straight serves from sophomore Haley Helm to finish out a 25-2 win. Crestview scored the first five points of the set, capped by a Megan Hartman kill, before the Pirates took advantage of two Knight hitting errors to make it 5-2.
The red, white and blue then took advantage of four Kirstin Hicks slams, two by Courtney Trigg and four Helm aces to seal the 25-2 victory.
Crestview jumped out to a quick 10-1 lead in the second set and led 16-4 before Continental's Abby Auch recorded a kill to make it 16-5.
The lady Pirates did get a slam from Lexi Doster later in the set but it wasn't enough as Crestview posted the 25-8 victory.
Continental scored first in game three for its only lead of the night but the Knights answered.
After Crestview went in front 2-1, the blue and gold got a kill by Dru Troyer off of digs from Alivia Homier and Cailah Rickard to knot the score at 2-2.
The Knights, though, closed the set on a 23-7 run to finish off the match with a 25-9 victory.
Haley Helm had five aces for Crestview with Megan Hartman adding three and Kirstin Hicks chipping in two. Courtney Trigg paced the Knights with nine kills while Hicks added seven. Hartman and Helm also posted three slams each.
Mackenzie Riggenbach had 16 assists for the lady Knights and Tianna Rager recorded 13 digs.
The match closed the careers of Continental seniors Cailah Rickard, Dru Troyer, Tia Escarmilla, Erica Fitzwater and Briana Sarka.
