PUTNAM COUNTY - Late afternoon thunderstorms and rain showers that moved across the area kept many softball, baseball and track teams from taking part in scheduled contests.
The rain didn't prevent the Columbus Grove baseball and softball teams from getting in Northwest Conference encounters against Allen East Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs used a late rally to open NWC play with a 6-4 win over the Lady Mustangs. Across the way, the Bulldog baseball team faced Allen East as they played for the Playing Hardball Against ALS fundraiser.
Columbus Grove ended the game in five innings as they defeated the Mustangs 11-0 for their first NWC win of the season.
Ottawa-Glandorf was able to complete their scheduled non-league game against Liberty-Benton just before darkness fell Thursday. The Titans and Eagles needed 10 innings before O-G pulled out a 5-4 win on an RBI single by Tyler Zender. Jaylen Von Sossan went all 10 innings for the win.
Weather permitting there are a few baseball and softball games on the schedule for Friday as well as the Columbus Grove Track and field Invitational.
