FORT JENNINGS — Kalida's Owen Recker came within one out of throwing a
no-hitter Thursday afternoon against Putnam County League rival Fort
Although Recker lost his no-hit bid, the Wildcats prevailed against their PCL rival by a 5-0 count at the Fort Jennings Community Park Diamond.
Kalida is now 2-0 in the PCL and 4-4 overall, while Ft. Jennings is 3-5 overall.
Recker threw 6 2/3 innings no-hit baseball before Connor Stechschulte ended his bid for a no-hitter with a single. Recker struck out 13 Ft. Jennings batters and walked one. Kalida did not have an error in the game.
Kalida grabbed the lead in the third inning with a run, then scored twice in the fourth inning. They added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Kevin Hamburg had a single and double for the Wildcats, while Derek Buss was 3 for 3 with an RBI. Grant Laudick had a single and drove in two runs and Trevor Lambert had two singles.
Miller City 3
MILLER CITY — Miller City scored twice in the bottom of the third inning on their way to 3-2 Putnam County League win over Leipsic.
With the game tied 1-1 going to the bottom of the third the Wildcats pushed across two runs for the lead. The Vikings made it a one run game in the fifth inning.
Jacob Schimmoeller (2-0) picked up the win for Miller City as he allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits with six strikeouts, four walks and a hit batter.
Cole Niese, Schimmoeller, Justin Schnipke and Mark Kuhlman all had a single for the Wildcats (2-1, 6-1).
Dylan Schroeder took the loss for the Vikings as he went 4 1/3 innings allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits with three strikeouts, six walks and two hit batters.
Cole Rieman, Devin Hiegel, Schroeder, Jordan Berger and Chris Basinger all had a hit for the Vikings.
CONTINENTAL — Pandora-Gilboa scored twice in the fourth inning on their way to a 7-5 Putnam County League win over Continental Thursday.
With the game tied 4-4, the Rockets scored twice in the fourth inning and once in the fifth for a 7-4 lead. The Pirates scored a run in the sixth inning for the final score.
Drew Johnson picked up the win for the Rockets as he went four innings allowing four unearned runs on a hit. Ryan Lee recorded a save going three innings allowing a run on two hits with six strikeouts.
Johnson and Ryan Shartell both had a hit and drove in two runs for the Rockets. Carter Nofziger had three hits for P-G and Lee two hits.
Payton Weller took the loss for the Pirates as he went 4 2/3 innings. Nick States worked in relief.
Konnor Okuley drove in two runs for the Pirates. Chris Potts, Jacob Williams and Jarret Keck all had a hit for Continental.
