Second half run moves Vikings into finals

AYERSVILLE - Leipsic was engaged in a close game with Continental Friday evening in the first game of the Ayersville Holiday tournament.After a timeout midway through the third quarter, the Vikings took control of the game on their way to a 59-39 win over the Pirates.
The win advances Leipsic to the finals Saturday night against Ayersville, who defeated Hilltop in the second game at approximately 7:30 p.m. Continental (5-3) plays Hilltop in the first game at 6 p.m.
Leipsic had a 32-30 lead on the Pirates after a three point play by Paige Ordway with 4:15 left in the third quarter. After a quick timeout by the Vikings, Leipsic was a different team as they outscored the Pirates 13-1 to end the third quarter taking a 45-31 lead.
Haley Gerten had five points during the run, which included a three-pointer, while Kelly Nadler had four points. Amber Gerdeman and Rachel Rieman both had two points. Ordway scored the Pirates lone point during the Vikings run.
Nadler and Ordway exchanged points to start the fourth quarter, before Leipsic went on a 10-0 run to take a 24 point lead at 57-33. Leipsic's inside game provided all 10 points as Nadler had six points and Amber Gerdeman four points, all at the line.
Nadler led the Vikings with 24 points, all on field goals. Gerdeman finished with 12 points and Gerten had 10 points.
Leipsic's size helped the Vikings claim a 34-15 rebounding edge.
Ordway led the Pirates with 19 points and Paige Kindilien finished with seven points.
