Six wrestlers advance to Saturday semi-finals

PUTNAM COUNTY - Six wrestlers from Putnam County advanced to the semi-finals of their respective Division III tournaments Friday night.Columbus Grove had two wrestlers reach the semi-finals, while Ottawa-Glandorf had four wrestlers reach the semi-finals. The Bulldogs are competing in the Division III sectional at Lima Central Catholic and O-G is at the Elmwood sectional.
The semi-finals and consolation rounds will be held starting Saturday morning leading up to the sectional championship rounds. The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance to the district tournament.
The two Columbus Grove wrestlers reaching the semi-finals Friday night were Tregg Keysor and Alex Shaffer at the LCC sectional. Keysor advanced to the semi-finals at 106 pounds, while Shaffer advanced at 285 pounds.
Keysor pinned Bath's Matt Stahl to advance, while Shaffer defeated Spencerville's Jake Bellows 6-5.
O-G had four wrestlers advance in Ruben Lugo, Jacob Wells, Mason Meyer and Shaun Gibson.
Lugo reached the semi-finals at 170 pounds after he pinned North Baltimore's Marshall Weaver in 5:23. Lugo will face Lake's Robert Cruz in the semi-finals.
Wells reached the semi-finals at 182 pounds as he defeated Genoa's Tyler Baird 8-2. Wells will face Galen Powers of Patrick Henry in the semi-final round.
Meyer reached the semi-finals at 195 pounds as he defeated Spencer Linke of Woodmore 6-2. Meyer will face North Baltimore's Dalton Ishmael in the semi-finals.
Gibson reached the semi-finals at 285 pounds after he pinned Cardinal Stritch's Michael Outland in 1:09. Gibson will face Cody Buckner in the semi-final round.
