OTTAWA — Ottawa-Glandorf overcame a sluggish start Friday night to defeat Bryan 70-60 in the 2017-18 season opener for both teams.

The Golden Bears used a pair of first quarter three-pointers to hold a 16-11 edge after the opening eight minutes of play. Bryan held a 23-17 edge in the second quarter before the Titans went on an 11-0 run to take a 28-23 lead. Seven of the 11 O-G points were scored by non starters as senior Richie Knowlton got things rolling with a three-pointer. The run helped the Titans to a 32-25 halftime lead on the Golden Bears.

From there the Titans went on to outscore the Bears 38-35 in the second half for the win.

Owen Hiegel and Jake Dible led the Titans with 14 points each and Ethan White had 13 points and five rebounds in the win. Aaron Rieman chipped in 10 points off the bench as 10 players scored in the game for O-G.

Zhane Cupp led the Golden Bears with a game high 23 points as he hit three three-pointers. Peyton Lamberson added 17 points and Evan Smith had 15 points as he had three three-pointers.

O-G won the junior varsity game 80-40.

Miller City 55

Tinora 40

TINORA — Miller City jumped out to an early lead in handing Tinora a 55-40 non-league season opening setback Friday night.

The Wildcats had an 11-7 lead after the opening quarter and were up 24-15 at halftime. Miller City used a 14-11 third quarter scoring advantage to take a 12 point lead to the fourth quarter.

Mitch Gable and Mark Kuhlman led the Wildcats with 16 points each. Noah Otto added 10 points to the Miller City win. Tyler Schroeder pulled down nine rebounds for the Wildcats and Kuhlman had six rebounds and four assists.

Tye Norden led the Rams with 14 points and Ryan Mohr had nine points and eight rebounds.

Miller City won the junior varsity game 37-32.

Kalida 52

New Bremen 43

KALIDA — Kalida outscored New Bremen in three of the four quarters Friday evening on their way to a 52-43 season opening win.

The Wildcats posted a 20-14 lead after the first quarter and were up 30-21 at halftime. After the Cardinals trimmed five points off the Kalida lead in the third quarter, the Wildcats finished the game with a 15-10 fourth quarter scoring run.

Kalida hit 22-of-30 free throw chances in the game for the win. New Bremen was 6-of-13 at the line for the night.

Trevor Lambert led the Wildcats with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Grant Laudick had nine points and five rebounds. Owen Recker had five rebounds for Kalida.

Avery Powers led New Bremen wiyh 14 points.

Bluffton 41

Leipsic 37

BLUFFTON — Bluffton staged a fourth quarter rally Friday night to defeat Leipsic 41-37 in the season opener for both teams.

The Pirates trailed 33-26 after three quarters before outscoring the Vikings 15-4 in the final quarter.

Kaleb Jefferson scored six points in the fourth quarter to lead the Pirates with 16 points. Dakota Bricker and Luke Denecker both had seven points.

Tyler Gillespie had 12 points for the Vikings and Reese Mangas added 11 points.

Ottoville 75

Temple Christian 52

OTTOVILLE — Ottoville opened the season Friday evening with a 75-52 win over Lima Temple Christian.

Logan Kemper led the Big Green with 25 points and 10 rebounds and Nick Moorman added 22 points and six rebounds to the win. Ryan Suever added six points and pulled down six rebounds for Ottoville.

Arlington 53

Fort Jennings 38

ARLINGTON — Arlington built an 11 point halftime lead on their way to a 53-38 non-league season opening win over Fort Jennings.

The Red Devils had a 27-16 halftime lead as they opened the game with a 13-7 first quarter scoring advantage. The Musketeers outscored the Red Devils 13-12 in the third quarter before Arlington closed the game with a 14-9 scoring margin.

Jaret Vermillion led the Red Devils with 16 points and Caleb Price had 13 points and seven rebounds. Ivan Berry added 10 points and six rebounds.

Cole Horstman had 14 points and four rebounds for the Musketeers and Brandon Wehri had nine points and five rebounds.

Wayne Trace 64

Columbus Grove 55

COLUMBUS GROVE — Wayne Trace outscored Columbus Grove in the middle two quarters Friday night to claim a 64-55 season opening win.

After both teams scored 14 points in the first quarter, the Raiders grabbed a 29-25 halftime lead before breaking the game open with a 19-8 third quarter scoring advantage. The Bulldogs made things interesting with a 23-16 fourth quarter scoring advantage.

Jake Kuhn led the Raiders with a game high 24 points and he had 11 rebounds, while Eli Sinn and Josiah Linder both had 10 points.

Logan Malsam scored 21 points to lead the Bulldogs and he grabbed 10 rebounds. Blake Reynolds added 14 points.

Columbus Grove won the junior varsity game 60-49.

Paulding 59

Continental 41

PAULDING — Paulding defeated Continental 59-41 in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
