Farm Bureau offers agriculture experience at the Ohio State Fair COLUMBUS, Ohio - Family fun and a connection to rural Ohio are just two of the many reasons for visitors to stop by the "Land and Living" exhibit at the Ohio State Fair, now through Aug. 8. Presented by Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF), the exhibit demonstrates agriculture's link to everyday life.
Visitors to the exhibit, located in the Nationwide Donahey Ag & Hort building, can participate in a variety of activities such as climbing a giant corn wall, watching chicks and ducks hatch and planting a flower to take home. Children can take a ride through the OFBF Country Cruise on a pedal tractor while adults can take a stroll to view facts about Ohio crops, animals and other important areas of Ohio agriculture. Families can also have their picture taken, compliments of OFBF.
The Land and Living display will feature many new exhibits including a giant pumpkin patch that will feature Gus Swisshisler, as he carves a giant squash weighing more than 600 pounds on July 31 and Aug. 1. The building will also feature an animal pavilion showcasing facts about Ohio agriculture, and Ohio farmers will also be on site to answer questions and share information with visitors.
Also joining the Land and Living line-up is 'Seed Survivor,' presented by Agrium, featuring multimedia and virtual reality games, a sunflower seed planting station, a watershed center and more. This exhibit for youths demonstrates that plants need water, light, healthy soil, and nutrients to survive.
"The 'Land & Living' exhibit definitely has something for everyone in the family," said OFBF promotion specialist Cara Lawson. "The building is full of fun activities that will leave visitors with a better understanding of Ohio agriculture and a greater appreciation for Ohio farmers."
"Land and Living" is supported by the Ohio Soybean Council, Ohio Corn Marketing Program and the Ohio Expositions Commission. Last year, the exhibit attracted an estimated 350,000 state fair visitors. "Land and Living" is located east of the giant slide and across from the south entrance to the midway. There is no additional charge for visiting the building or any of its displays.
