P-G wins Pony League title OTTAWA - Pandora-Gilboa's Pony League team scored in the first five innings as they defeated the Delphos Red team 9-1 to win the Putnam County championship at Ottawa Memorial Park.
After shutting down a Delphos scoring threat in the top of the first, P-G scored two runs in the bottom of the inning as Reed Hovest and Chris McClain drove in the two runs. Hovest had an RBI single and McClain plated a run with an RBI groundout.
P-G added a run in the second inning as Jacob Basinger scored after he was issued a one out walk. P-G added a run in the third inning as Reed Hovest scored on a single by Trent Phillips to make it a 4-0 game.
P-G broke the game open in the forth inning as they scored three times. McClain plated two runs with a double and he scored as Dustin Rieman followed with an RBI double.
P-G closed out their scoring with two runs in the fifth as Seth Schmenk and Reed Hovest had RBI singles.
Delphos scored their only run of the game in the sixth on a triple and groundout.
Brian Schneck picked up the win for P-G as he went the distance allowing one run on seven hits. He had five strikeouts in the game and didn't walk a batter.
Reed Hovest had four hits in the game for P-G and Schneck had three hits. Alex Osborn had two hits as P-G finished the game with 13 hits.
Pandora-Gilboa's defense turned three double plays in the game to help shut down Delphos.
P-G advanced to the championship game with an 8-5 win over Columbus Grove at Miller City in the semi-finals.
P-G took an early 1-0 lead in the opening inning as Seth Schmenk had an RBI single.
P-G appeared to break the game open in the third inning as they scored five times. McClain and Dustin Rieman both plated two runs with hits and Osborn had an RBI single.
P-G added a run in the fifth as Reed Hovest doubled and scored on two passed balls.
After having been held scoreless for four innings, Columbus Grove got back in the game in the bottom of the fifth as they scored four times. Both teams finished the scoring with a run in the sixth inning.
P-G banged out 13 hits in the contest as Schmenk had three hits to lead the way, while Schneck, Tyler Belcher and Reed Hovest all had two hits.
McClain was the winning pitcher as he worked five innings and Schneck worked two innings in relief.
