Richard Rimer COLUMBUS GROVE - Richard "Dick" Rimer, 80, died at 3 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. He was born Jan. 24, 1933, in Rimer, to the late George B. and Lyda (Patton) Rimer. On July 16, 1967, he married Wilma J. Anderson Fortman, and she died Feb. 1, 1996. Surviving are a son, Donald James "Jim" Fortman of Columbus Grove; four daughters, Carol (Joe) Bunn of Columbus Grove, Charol Stechschulte of Columbus Grove, Kathy (Chris) Miller of Lima and Linda (Denny) Montgomery of Bluffton; 13 grandchildren, Clinton Fortman, Tracy Fortman, Kurtis Fortman, Greg Bunn, Jodi (Dale) Niese, Cindy Radebaugh, Tina (Daryl) Kinstle, Lori (Corey) Blankemeyer, Jennifer (Mark) Galvin, Amy (Jeff) Gutman, Rodney (Kara) Montgomery, Vickie (John Garner) Lopez and Jason (Tiffany) Montgomery; 21 great-grandchildren, Colton Spath, Shelby Schroeder, Clayton Niese, Brandon Radebaugh, Dustin Stechschulte, Tanner Blankemeyer, Anden Blankemeyer, Layton Blankemeyer, Sydney Witteborg, Alec Hughes, Haylee Kinstle, Michel Kersker, Skylar Gutman, Nathan Brown, Joshua Lopez and Alaina Lopez, Shiley Roether, Samara King, Kendrick Galvin, Sabrina Galvin and Andrew Galvin; and two sisters, Ruth Mitchel of Greensboro, N.C. and Shirley (Glen "Duke") Williams of Fosters, Ala. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Alan Stechschulte; a brother, Donald "Butch" (Ruby) Rimer; six sisters, Marion Rimer, Freda (Victor) Collier, Esther (Perl) Dunlap, Mildred (Lee) Cattell, Myrtle (Harold) Campnell and Norma (Harmon "Peck") Meihls. Richard was the ninth of 10 children, born to George and Lyda Rimer. He was proud of his family heritage in Rimer. He was the grandson of Daniel Rimer and his great grandfather was Peter Rimer, the founder of and first member of the Town of Rimer in Putnam County. Mr. Rimer worked three years for the former Russell Company in Pandora; nine years for the Putnam County Vidette, followed by 10 years at the Lima News and retired from Country Builders Supply and Construction, where he worked for 29 years. Dick was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School, class of 1952. He was a member of the Columbus Grove Christian Church, Columbus Grove VFW Post #9648 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aries #2772 of Columbus Grove. He was a loving father to his children, a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a proud uncle to his nieces and nephews and their children. He loved his wife and especially enjoyed the time they spent at the lake. Services will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Columbus Grove Christian Church, Columbus Grove. Pastor Geoff Eubank will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at Columbus Grove Christian Church, Columbus Grove.
