CUBA - Leonard Joseph Verhoff, 80, of Cuba, died peacefully following a brief illness on Sunday, July 18, 2010, at 7:07 p.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima surrounded by his family. He went home to the Lord and joined the love of his life, Dolores in paradise.
He was born April 5, 1930 at his home in Cuba to the late Albert and Catherine (Horstman) Verhoff. On June 11, 1952, he married Dolores L. Wolke and she died Nov. 17, 2009.
Surviving are nine children: Elaine (Jack) Ewald of West Union, Roger (Dorothy) Verhoff of Continental, Daniel (Barbara) Verhoff of Continental, Robert (Kathleen) Verhoff of Ottawa, Edward (Marge) Verhoff of Kalida, Patricia (Douglas) Lammers of Miller City, Fr. Melvin Verhoff of Delphos, Joseph (Kathleen) Verhoff of Kalida and Diane Verhoff of Findlay; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother: Ralph (Delores) Verhoff of Kalida; one sister: Mary Theresa Warren of Ottawa; and three sisters-in-law: Constance Verhoff of Continental, Mildred Verhoff of Continental and Irleen Siebeneck of Leipsic.
He was preceded in death by a daughter: Anna Verhoff and three brothers: Isadore, Raymond and Arnold Verhoff.
Mr. Verhoff was the founder of Verhoff Machine & Welding, Inc. since 1955 and was a lifelong farmer. Len was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida and its Holy Name Society; former member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Cuba and its Holy Name Society; 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Kalida council 5669; Leipsic Eagles, Leipsic VFW, Miller City Sportsmen's Club; Lima Serra Club, Kalida Fish & Game Club; past Greensburg Township Zoning Board; past member of Putnam County Airport Board; past member of Putnam County CIC and graduate of Miller City High School. He enjoyed woodworking, flying, polka dancing, traveling with his wife, his home in Florida and especially loved spending time with his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mel Verhoff officiating. Burial will follow in St. Isidore Cemetery, Cuba.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa.
