Titan girls get first win OTTAWA - Ottawa-Glandorf started quickly and never let up as the Titans collected their first win of the season Thursday night.
The Titans jumped out to a quick lead and continued to add to it as O-G pounded Kenton 62-43 in Western Buckeye League action O-G is now 1-3 in the league and 1-7 overall.
O-G jumped out to a quick lead as they outscored the Wildcats (0-4, 2-8) 16-10 in the opening quarter. The Titans expanded the lead in the second quarter with a 17-10 scoring advantage for a 33-20 halftime lead. O-G put the game away in the third quarter as they outscored the Wildcats 19-9.
Dana Kaufman led the Titans with 14 points, while Bingley had 13 points and Tara Wehri had 11 points.
McKenzie Butterman led all scorers with 18 points and Julia Stalder had 12 points.
O-G won the junior varsity game 49-24.
Kalida 44
Ottoville 26
KALIDA - Kalida picked up a key Putnam County League win Thursday night as the Wildcats defeated Ottoville 44-26.
The Wildcats are now 3-0 in the league and 8-4 overall, while the Big Green are 1-1 and 7-2.
Defense was name of the game for Kalida as they held Ottoville to 26 points as the Big Green reached double digits in a quarter just once. The Wildcats held Ottoville to 12 first half points before expanding their lead with a 15-10 third quarter scoring run.
Emily Turnwald and Julia Fuerst led Kalida with eight points each.
Kari Beining led Ottoville with nine points.
Kalida won the junior varsity game 42-28.
Leipsic 42
Arcadia 27
LEIPSIC - Leipsic remained undefeated in Blanchard Valley Conference action with a 42-27 win over Arcadia Thursday night.
The Vikings are now 4-0 in the BVC and 8-1 overall, while the Redskins slipped to 1-3 in the conference and 4-7 overall. Leipsic is tied with Liberty-Benton atop the BVC standings.
Defense was key for the Vikings as they allowed the Redskins only six points in the opening half and 13 points through three quarters. Leipsic's defense pitched a shutout in a low scoring first quarter as the Vikings had an 8-0 lead after one quarter.
Shannon Nadler and Molly Ellerbrock led the Vikings with nine points each and Cheslea Gerten had seven points. Nadler also pulled down 10 rebounds in the contest.
Kendal Moses had 10 points to lead Arcadia.
Leipsic won the junior varsity matchup 33-16.
Liberty-Benton 60
Pandora-Gilboa 41
PANDORA - Liberty-Benton scored 23 points in the first half of their Blanchard Valley Conference game with Pandora-Gilboa Thursday night.
The Eagles did one better than that in the third quarter.
The unbeaten Eagles used a big third quarter to remain perfect with a 60-41 conference win over the Rockets. The Eagles are now 4-0 in the conference and 8-0 overall, while P-G is 2-2 in the BVC and 4-3 overall.
Liberty-Benton trailed 24-23 at the break Thursday as the Rockets outscored them 17-15 in the second quarter. But in the third quarter, the Eagles regained control of the game as they went on a 24-8 scoring run.
Amanda Hyde led the Eagles with 25 points as she was 11-of-13 at the free throw line. Catie Craft finished with 12 points and Hillary Moore 10 points. Hyde also pulled down five rebounds.
Taylor Hermiller led the Rockets with 11 points and five rebounds. Stephanie Recker finished with eight points and Megan Gerdeman also pulled down five rebounds.
Liberty-Benton won the junior varsity game 32-31.
Columbus Grove 73
Spencerville 44
COLUMBUS GROVE - Columbus Grove didn't allow a long layoff to affect them Thursday night as the Bulldogs rolled past Spencerville 73-44 in Northwest Conference action.
Not having played since before Christman, the Bulldogs (2-0, 4-2) jumped out to a 15-6 first quarter lead. The Bulldogs added to their lead with a 40-13 scoring advantage in the middle two quarters.
Kelsey McClure led a balance Bulldog attack with 15 points Erica Glass added 12 points as five Grove players reached double digits.
Devon Keysor led the Bearcats (2-1, 2-5) with 17 points.
