OTTAWA — Ottawa’s newly constructed downtown pavilion will provide a warm yet wintery setting for “Christmas (at the) Rex,” Sunday, December 9, 2018, from 3-5:30 p.m. The afternoon will feature Christmas concerts with outstanding music, free food and drinks, special gifts for children and families, and a very unique “photo booth.”

Sponsored by New Creation Lutheran Church, Ottawa, the mid-afternoon community outreach event will be fun for the entire family with music and song provided by the Ottawa-Glandorf High School Show Choir, “Out of the Blue,” and the talented musical duo of The Wallens with special guest, Dean Phelps.

The Wallens are the incredibly talented husband and wife duo of Brian Keith and Molly. Molly is a classically-trained vocalist with experience that ranges all the way from opera to bluegrass. Hoosier born multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Brian Keith, brings his particular talent that has garnered him a second place award at the 2015 International Blues Challenge and an “Artist of the Year” award by the Starr-Gennett Foundation.

Along with Dean Phelps, a special Kentucky- born guitarist who has earned local and national recognition by combining a rhythmic beat of thumbpick guitar with a soulful vocal style, the three have recently collaborated on a brand new Christmas Album entitled “Ten More Miles.” They bring their creative close-knit harmony vocals, rich storytelling, and eclectic merger of blues, bluegrass, gospel and folk to the Rex Pavilion stage.

All are invited to join the celebration and enter into the Christmas story in a whole new way. In addition to the great music, chili, hotdogs, cookies, coffee, hot chocolate and water will be provided throughout the afternoon. Some seating will be provided, but guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs. A special “Nativity Scene” photo booth will be set up throughout the day. As a thank you to all guest, children’s gifts and a family ornament will be given away.

In the event of inclement weather, all activities will be moved to inside the New Creation Church Worship and Ministry Center, 8127 E Main Street, Ottawa.
