Rene A. Valdez, 30, Defiance, was found guilty of possession of drugs (methamphetamine), possession of drugs (oxycodone), possession of drugs (cocaine), illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, having weapons under disability, and trafficking in drugs (cocaine) following a jury trial. The defendant’s motion requesting a new trial was overruled and denied and Valdez is to be sentenced at 10 a.m. Oct. 25. According to reports of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, a traffic stop performed in Kalida on Oct. 15, resulted in the recovery of several drugs and drug-related items while resulting in two arrests.

Sheriff deputies stopped a vehicle at 1:53 a.m. that looked suspicious. The K-9 unit was called to the scene, and K-9 Nero detected the presence of a narcotic odor while performing a free air sniff around the vehicle. Valdez, and Dakota J. Valdez, 20, of Defiance, gave consent to search the vehicle and items found in the car included 39.6 grams of cocaine, 10.6 grams of methamphetamine, 6.4 grams of crack cocaine, 19.5 grams of marijuana, 49 tablets of 30-gram Oxycodone, drug paraphernalia, meth lab supplies, a large sum of cash and a loaded firearm.

Dakota Valdez is currently serving a 30-month sentence after pleaded guilty to drug charges last May.

Christopher J. Calvelage, 36, Delphos, pleaded guilty to theft of a credit card. He faces up to 12 months in prison and $2,500 in fines. Bond was continued while a pre-sentence investigation is conducted with sentencing set for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 14. Another count was dismissed.

Tiffany N. Schoepfle, 26, Lima, was sentenced to 175 days jail for revocation of treatment in lieu. She was placed on five years community control and given credit for time served. She was referred to Coleman Behavioral Health for treatment. She must obtain and maintain employment and complete all treatment recommended. She had been convicted of possession of drugs (heroin).

Ashley N. Montgomery, 28, Winchester, Ky., was sentenced to 11 months in prison for possession of drugs (heroin). She was given credit for 232 days served as well as any additional days pending her transfer to prison. Montgomery was arrested Nov. 24, 2016, on drug charges following a traffic stop in Putnam County.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reported a 2010 Toyota Camry was pulled over on a traffic stop at 3:23 p.m. at the intersection of Ohio 15 and Road 19 in Monroe Township. After criminal indicators were observed, the Putnam County K-9 unit was dispatched and the dog alerted to a narcotic odor emanating from the vehicle, the sheriff’s office reported. The car was searched and cocaine, heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were discovered. Montgomery, 27, was a passenger in the car. The driver of the car was not charged.

Jackson Betscher, Findlay, was granted a motion for summary judgment against the governing board of the Putnam County Educational Service Center in the amount of $16,700.50 which shall accrue interest at the rate of three percent. A hearing will be set to determine reasonable costs and attorney fees that will be awarded to Betscher.

Kelsey R. Bradley, 27, Ottawa, was placed on three years community control for violating the terms of supervision. The violations included failing to obtain her GED and failing to pay court-ordered restitution as of July 11. She was also ordered to obtain her GED and employment and pay restitution of $1,072.02. She must undergo Family Responsibility Counseling, have only medical provider and one pharmacy. She was originally convicted of burglary and theft over $1,000.
