COLUMBUS GROVE - Jerry Watkins was among friends when he was presented a special certificate last week.
Sitting
at Jerry’s Marathon drinking coffee, he was presented a certificate by
Columbus Grove American Legion Commander Paul Karcher, commemorating
Watkins 70 years as a member of the American Legion Post 516.
Watkins said he is a member of the Columbus Grove American Legion and Columbus Grove VFW.
Jerry joined the U.S Army in 1949. He served in the military for five years.
He enjoys going into his business everyday. “I opened it in 1960,” he said “He also owns Jerry’s Used Car business.
At
91 years old, Jerry said he enjoys doing a little work each day at his
business. “I used to fly,” he said. “But now I’m too old.”
Karcher
said Jerry preferred to receive his recognition at his business instead
of during a special ceremony. ‘That’s okay,” Karcher said. “We just
felt it was important to honor him for his longevity with the American
Legion.
