PUTNAM COUNTY — Each year, the Kerner-Slusser American Legion Post 63 in Ottawa hosts the American and Government Test Program for students enrolled in Kalida and Ottawa-Glandorf High Schools.

The girl and boy from every grade level at each school who receive the highest score on the test are then awarded a gift and certificate. The two schools are further honored with the Post winners for each grade level. The two students (one boy and one girl) from each grade who score the highest from the two schools then move on to the County level.

After the County-wide winners are selected, those students move on to the District, and then Department level. The hopes of the students are to be a Department Award winner, and earn an all-expense trip to Washington D.C. for a week in the spring.
