PUTNAM COUNTY — The National Weather Service issues a flood watch for Putnam County and the surrounding area this morning. According to rain gauges monitored by the weather service, the immediate area is not expected to reach the minor flood stage. However, the Action stage is expected to be reached for the Auglaize River at Fort Jennings by 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, and the Blanchard River at Ottawa by 8 a.m. the next morning. This is the stage where some mitigation efforts are recommended for those in low-lying areas.

The Auglaize at Fort Jennings is expected to reach its peak of an estimated 12.6 feet by Wednesday at 8 a.m., with the Blanchard at Ottawa reaching its peak of an estimated 22.2 feet by Thursday at 8 a.m.

The Ottawa River near Kalida was expected to reach 11.3 feet on Monday morning, well below its action stage of 16 feet. The Blanchard River at Findlay was expected to reach its peak of 9 feet this morning as well.

As a reminder, never drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water may be too deep to allow safe passage. Also never allow children to play in or near floodwaters. Visit www.weather.gov/iwx online for detailed river forecasts and more information.
