Escaped inmate captured

 PUTNAM COUNTY — A prisoner on work release who absconded from the Putnam County Jail on Friday, March 1, was returned to the jail on Monday. Michael Ryan Mayes, 34, Lima, found guilty of first degree misdemeanor theft in December of last year and granted work release in January, failed to report to work or return to the jail on Friday. Mayes was apprehended at an undisclosed location and returned to the Putnam County Jail early Monday afternoon. In addition to serving out the remainder of his sentence on the theft charge, Mayes, whose birthday is March 8, now faces an additional escape charge carrying a possible five-year sentence.

PCDAC special meeting tentatively scheduled

 PUTNAM COUNTY — A special meeting of the Putnam County District Advisory Council has been tentatively scheduled for Monday, March 11, at 4:30 p.m. at the Putnam County Health Department. The meeting was called to appoint new members of the Putnam County Board of Health.

Bids opened for bridge replacement

PUTNAM COUNTY — On Feb. 28, bids were opened at the county commissioner’s office for a bridge replacement project on Co. Rd. 19 over the Blanchard River in Greensburg Township. Three bids were received. R.G. Zachrich provided a quote of $1,923,412. Eagle Bridge quoted the project at $1,874,000, and R & I Construction offered the lowest bid of $1,650,328. Commissioners voted to table the bids in order to review each proposal in more detail. The project is expected to be awarded soon and completed this year.
