Marlene M. (Altman) Rhodes - Putnam Sentinel

FINDLAY — Marlene M. (Altman) Rhodes, age 77, of Findlay, died at 2:45 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2019 at Bridge Hospice in Findlay. She was born in Leipsic, Ohio on December 15, 1941 to the late Leonard John “Happy” and Luella Buenger Altman. She married her soul mate and best friend, Archie L. Rhodes on March 17, 1962 and he died on July 5, 2001. She missed him terribly, speaking about him every single day.

She is survived by her children: Sherri (Donald) Schaeffer of Findlay, Steven (Jodi) Rhodes of Dublin, Ohio, and Scott (Laura) Rhodes of Findlay. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Ryan Rhodes, Rachael Rhodes, Samantha (Scott) Wallace, Mitchell Rhodes, Alec Rhodes, and Alissa Rhodes; great grandson, Jameson Wallace; siblings: Shirley (Tony) Guiton of Colorado, Roger Altman of Michigan, and Diane Kantner of Florida. She was preceded in death by siblings: Joyce Anne Altman, Ronnie (Dorothy) Altman, and Gene Altman.

Marlene lived for her children and grandchildren. She was a generous, giving woman who would help anyone. She was strong in her faith, convicted to her beliefs, and a touch on the ornery side. She was retired, having worked as an optometrist assistant and as a secretary at Drake, Phillips, Kuenzli and Clark Law Firm. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, in Findlay, and formerly of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was a former Sunday School Director and teacher. She was proud to be volunteering at the Nearly New Store for BVHS, the Birchhaven Library, and the BVHS nursery.

She was a former Girl Scout Leader and member of the Garden Club. She was an avid artist, and loved to sew, knit, and crochet. She also loved animals, the outdoors, hiking, camping, and gardening. Her love of traveling took her to Europe, Alaska, and Israel in recent years. She attended local plays at the Fort Findlay Playhouse, Marathon Performing Arts Center, and Riverside Park.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 12-2 p.m. at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay. Funeral services will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 2 p.m. Pastor William Stenke will officiate, and interment will follow at Knollcrest Cemetery, east of Findlay.
