Ruth Elaine Yarger - Putnam Sentinel

MANSFIELD — Ruth Elaine Yarger, 90, of Mansfield, went to join her husband, Robert G. Yarger, and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in Heaven on Thursday, January 3, 2019, after nearly a year long struggle with the effects of a stroke. She was born June 8, 1928, in Columbus Grove, Ohio, to the late Thomas and Vera (Snipker) Palmer.

She graduated from Columbus Grove High School in 1946 and married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Yarger on June 19, 1948. Bob was a State Highway Patrolman and his job brought them to Mansfield in 1961. Since they decided to raise their family In Mansfield rather than make another move with the Highway Patrol, they pursued a new career. In 1972, they opened their own business, "Bob's Handy Store," which they operated together.

Sadly, he passed away in 1991, but Ruth continued the business until 1996 when she retired to spend more time with her family. She thoroughly enjoyed being at home and having the luxury of spoiling her family with her wonderful holiday cooking and home made cherry pies. At the age of 77, Ruth was blessed with her only grandchild and he was a gift she and the entire family cherished. Ruth planned Easter egg hunts every year for her grandson's enjoyment. Ruth enjoyed every opportunity she could to spend time with her family.

Ruth enjoyed going out to eat with her girlfriends from the "Class of 1946" and her girlfriends in Mansfield. She was an honorary member of the Lexington Seniors. She was a member of the Daughters of Herman, VFW Post #9943 Ladies Auxiliary, and Fun and Friendship Club. She was a long time member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Ruth enjoyed life to the fullest and was a very active lady. Ruth bowled as a teenager; tried golf at age 38 where she became the #4 player on her team at Forest Hills (Imperial) Golf Course; and enjoyed water exercises at Friendly House for 20 years with her girlfriends. Her bright spirit has now joined her beloved husband, but Ruth leaves a lifetime of memories for family and friends to cherish.

Ruth is survived by two daughters, Barbara Jerome and Jennifer Young, both of Mansfield; a son, Curt (Karen) Yarger of Mansfield; one grandson, Wade Yarger of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
