MILLER CITY - Kalida had all aspects of their game working Sunday as the Wildcats topped Leipsic 8-1 in the District 2 ACME South sectional final at Miller City.

The win sends the Wildcats to the District 2 ACME district tournament starting next Friday at Patrick Henry. Kalida will open district action against Archbold at 6:15 p.m.

In the second game of the day at Miller City, Ottawa-Glandorf took advantage of scoring chances to defeat Miller City 10-4. The Titans will play Leipsic Monday at 6 p.m. at Miller City for a spot in the district tournament. The winner of this game will play Patrick Henry at 4 p.m. Friday.

In the sectional final, Kalida got a strong pitching performance from Tyler Klausing, played good defense and came through with some clutch hitting to defeat the Vikings.

Klausing went six innings to get the win as he allowed on run on six hits. His defense helped him out by turning a pair of double plays on the day and playing an error free game.

The big inning for Klausing was the third inning.

After the Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, the Vikings threatened to have a big inning as they loaded the bases with no outs. A bloop single to left plated one run before Klausing settled in to strike out the side and keep Kalida in the lead.

After the third inning, the Vikings had four more base runners, two of which were erased on double plays. Owen Recker came on to work the seventh inning and record three strikeouts.

Kalida took the lead scoring a pair of two out runs in the third inning.

Josh Recker walked and stole second base before Ethan Schmenk walked. As Leipsic's catched was throwing the ball back to his pitcher after Schmenk's walk, Recker tried to steal third base. The throw to third by Viking pitcher Cole Rieman was wild allowing Recker to score and Schmenk reached third base. Schmenk scored on a single to left by Trevor Lambert.

After Leipsic answered back with a run, the Wildcats came right back with two runs for a 4-1 lead. The Wildcats added three runs in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth.

Klausing and David Peck both had two hits for Kalida.

Rieman took the loss for Leipsic as he worked three plus innings. Wes Garcia went an inning and two-thirds in relief and Jaden Siefker finished the game.

Rieman and Walther both had two hits for Leipsic.

In the second game, Ottawa-Glandorf scored in five of the six innings they batted to get past Miller City in an elimination game.

The only inning the Titans didn't score was the second inning when they were retired in order.

O-G took the lead with a run in the first inning as Ethan Alt had a two out RBI single that scored Trey Nienberg.

Miller City took the lead in the top of the second inning with two runs. The Wildcats loaded the bases on two walks and an infield single before O-G was able to cut one runner down at the plate. The Wildcats scored on a wild pitch and bases loaded hit by pitch.

The two teams were tied 3-3 going to the fifth when the Titans scored twice for a 5-3 lead. Seth Sahloff had an RBI single and Jarrett Johns a sacrifice fly. The Titans broke the game open with five runs in the sixth inning. Nienberg had a two run single for O-G in the inning.

Logan Miller picked up the win for O-G in relief. Jaxon Buddelmeyer worked the first four innings before Miller came on in the fifth inning.

Nienberg, Miller, Sahloff and Johns all had two hits for the Titans.

Tyler Long took the loss for the Wildcats as he went five innings.TJ Michel and Ezra Deitering worked in relief.Long had a pair of base hits in the game for the Wildcats.
