ELIDA — Leipsic's volleyball team got off to a good start against Tiffin Calvert Saturday afternoon.

Twice in the opening set, the Lady Vikings had five point leads before the Lady Seneca's rallied and stole Leipsic's momentum.

Down 17-12 in the opening set, Tiffin Calvert rallied to post a 25-21 win before dominating the second set 25-14. Although the third set was close throughout, the Seneca's again rallied late to claim a 25-23 win and defeat the fourth ranked Vikings 3-0 in a Division IV regional final at the Elida Fieldhouse.

The win sends Tiffin Calvert (24-3) to the Division IV state semi-finals, while the Vikings saw a great season end at 25-3. The 25 wins are a school record for Leipsic volleyball.

In the opening set, the Vikings grabbed momentum early as they led 5-0 and later in the set were up 17-12 before Calvert started to rally. A 10 point run by the Senecas gave them a 22-17 lead that the Vikings were unable to recover from in dropping the first set.

That momentum carried over into the second set as the Senecas dominated play and left the Vikings searching for a way to stop them. Leipsic had a number of hitting errors in the set that helped Tiffin Calvert score points, but Calvert's defense was really good as when the Vikings were able to get off a good attack they were able to dig it up that allowed one of their many hitters on the front row to send an attack at the Vikings.

With Calvert leading 2-0 heading to the third set, the two teams battled back and forth as Leipsic looked to force a fourth set and Calvert tried to close out the match. Leipsic had a 22-20 lead late before Calvert rallied to go up 24-22. Leipsic staved off elimination with a point and had a good chance to tie the set, but a Viking player was called for being in the net on an attack giving Calvert the win.

Senior Hayley Heitmeyer paced the Viking attack Saturday afternoon with 16 kills on 35-of-44 hitting along with four blocks and she was 8-of-9 serving. Carlee Siefker added 14 kills on 29-of-38 hitting with 10 digs and Kacey Duller had 21 digs and was 8-of-8 serving. Brooke Brown was 9-of-9 serving with 14 digs.
