OTTAWA — Ottawa-Glandorf grab an early lead and finished strong to defeat Kalida 55-36 in the season opener for both teams Friday night.

The Lady Titans started the 2019-20 season strong by outscoring the Ladycats 17-8 in the opening quarter and maintained that lead at intermission. O-G was able to add one point to their lead in the third quarter before using an 18-9 scoring run in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Ottawa-Glandorf played well on the defensive end forcing 25 Kalida turnovers and holding them to a 34 percent (9-of-26) night shooting from the field.

Sophomore Erin Kaufman registered a double-double for the Titans with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kelsey Erford added 12 points, five rebounds and four steals and Brianna Schimmoeller had 10 points, four rebounds and two steals. Nine different players scored for the Titans in the win.

Grace Klausing paced the Kalida attack with 13 points and five rebounds. Brenna Smith and McKayla Maag both scored six points in the game.

Leipsic 41

Pandora-Gilboa 33

PANDORA — Leipsic overcame a tough start to defeat Pandora-Gilboa 41-33 in a Putnam County League girls basketball game Friday night.

The Rockets had a 10-6 lead after the first quarter before the Vikings outscored them 15-3 in the second quarter for a 21-13 halftime lead. P-G pulled within 27-24 after three quarters before Leipsic finished the contest with a 14-9 scoring margin for the win.

Liz Scheckelhoff paced the Vikings with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Marissa Hermiller added six points to the Leipsic win.

Alexis Augsburger had nine points to lead the Rockets and Lexie Neuenschwander had eight points. Lacie Fenstermaker added seven points to the P-G score.

Van Wert 45

Ottoville 40

OTTOVILLE — Van Wert outscored Ottoville in the fourth quarter Friday evening to claim a 45-40 non-league win in the season opener for both teams.

The Big Green took a 30-27 lead to the fourth quarter before the Cougars outscored them 18-10 for the win. Kyra Welch scored 11 points in the final quarter for the Cougars as she had a pair of three point plays to help her team rally.

Van Wert had a slim 7-5 lead after one quarter before Ottoville used a 17-8 run in the second quarter for a 22-15 halftime lead. The Cougars pulled within 27-22 after three quarters.

Welch and Carlee Young both had 13 points for Van Wert in the win.

Nicole Knippen scored 12 points to lead the Big Green and Alexa Honigfod added eight points.

Van Wert also won the junior varsity contest.

Spencerville 54

Continental 30

CONTINENTAL — Spencerville outscored Continental in every quarter Friday night as they claimed a 54-30 season opening girls basketball win.

The Bearcats had a 9-2 lead after the first quarter and were up 20-8 at halftime. A 19-10 run in the third quarter gave them a 39-18 lead going to the fourth quarter.

Nelaya Burden led the Bearcats with a game high 18 points.

Cate Etter had 11 points to lead the Pirates and Addy Armey finished with seven points.
