TROY — Six wrestlers from Putnam County earned the right to compete in the Division III state tournament at the Troy District Saturday afternoon.

Advancing to the state tournament are Dakota Sargent, Dylan Sargent and Jeff Meyer from Columbus Grove along with Ottawa-Glandorf's Isaac Hernandez, Danny Rosales and Matt Schmnersal.

The state tournament gets underway Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Schottenstein Center on the Ohio State University campus. The tournament continues on Friday and Saturday.

Meyer was the lone district champion, while Hernandez, Dakota Sargent and Rosales were all district runners-up.

Meyer claimed his championship at 285 pounds as he pinned Northwest Conference rival Brennan Davies, Allen East, in 3:09 of the title match. Meyer will take a 43-8 to the 2019 state tournament, his second such appearance.

Hernandez finished second at 132 pounds as he fell to Gavin Brown of Legacy Christian in their title match 10-2, major decision. Hernandez will take a 33-4 record to the state tournament.

Rosales finished second at 182 pounds as he dropped the title match to Bluffton's Deandra Nassar 8-1. Roslaes will take a 27-6 record to the state tournament as five of those losses are to Nassar. Nassar is 44-0 on the season.

Dakota Sargent finished second at 195 pounds as he fell in the title match to Garrett Neth of Allen East 7-2. Sargent, who was injured most of the season, will take a 10-7 record into the state tournament.

Schmersal finished fourth at 195 pounds as he dropped the third place match to Isaac Grilliot of Versailles 9-8. Schmersal will take a 30-14 record to the state tournament.

Dylan Sargent finished fourth at 220 pounds as he defaulted the third place match to James Peters of Blanchester. Sargent will make a return trip to state with a 37-9 record.
