COLUMBUS - Three Putnam County wrestlers will be battling for positions on the podium Saturday as the third day of the Division III state wrestling tournament begins.

Ottawa-Glandorf's Danny Rosales and Columbus Grove's Jeff Meyer will be aiming for third place finishes, while the Titans' Isaac Hernandez will be in the seventh place match.

Meyer, a sophomore, was competing in the championship semi-finals at 285 pounds Friday night. Meyer ran into a tough customer in Noah Price of Fremont St.Joseph, who pinned the Bulldogs wrestler in 1:18 of their match. 

Meyer had advanced to the semi-final round Friday morning as he pinned Liam Kirkpatrick of Newark Catholic in 5:24.

Rosales, a senior, had a tough consolation quarterfinal Friday evening as he outlasted Kaden Kidd of Creston Norwayne 11-9 in sudden victory. Rosales scored all 11 of his points in the third period and overtime as he trailed 6-0 after two periods. In the third period, Rosales scored four take downs, including one in the final seconds of the match to force overtime. Rosales ended the match with a take down early in the one minute overtime period.

Rosales dropped into the consolation bracket after a 5-3 loss to Chris Langguth of Rootstown in the championship quarterfinals. In his first consolation match, Rosales defeated Liberty-Benton sophomore Nathaniel DiRie 4-3.

Rosales will face Brylan Clouse of Barnesville in the consolation semi-finals Saturday morning. Clouse fell in the semi-finals to Bluffton's Deandre Nassar 3-1. CLouse is 33-3 on the season and Rosales is 30-7.

Hernandaz, a senior, will be going for seventh place at 132 pounds after an 11-5 loss to Brian Palmer of Buckeye Local in the consolation quarterfinals Thursday night. Hernandez will square off against Klay Reeves of Johnston Northridge in the seventh place match.

Columbus Grove's Dakota Sargent fell one win short of making the consolation quarterfinals as he fell to Nathan Whitehead of Columbiana 9-5.
