OTTAWA — Ottawa-Glandorf and Miller City broke on top early Friday evening on their way to wins in their respective ACME sectional tournamnet games.

The Titans scored two runs in the second inning and rode the strong pitching of Jacob Balbaugh to a 7-1 win over Kalida. At Miller City, the Wildcats scored six times in the top of the first inning on their way to a 12-5 win over Patrick Henry.

With the outcomes, the Titans face Ayersville in a second round matchup Saturday at 10 a.m. in Ayersville to be followed by Miller City and Holgate. Kalida dropped into the losers bracket and will face Patrick Henry in Miller City at 10 a.m. The two losing teams at Ayersville Saturday will square off in an elimination game after the Miller City-Holgate is finished.

After stranding a pair of base runners in the opening inning, the Titans didn't waste an opportunity in the second inning.

Logan Miller reached on an error to start the O-G second inning before Balbaugh reached on a fielders choice as Miller was cut down at second base. Jarret Johns then reached on an infield single before the second out of the inning was recorded. Nate Maag kept the inning going by working a walk to load the bases.

Trevor Schimmoeller drove home the first O-G run with an infield single before Carter Schimmoeller walked to make it a 2-0 game. A ground ball back to the pitcher ended the inning.

Those two runs were enough to back the solid pitching of Balbaugh, who went the distance for the win. Balbaugh faced only 12 batters through four innings as he used a fielders choice, caught stealing and a double play to erase the base runners Kalida had.

In the fifth inning Kalida had a chance to get back into the game as they loaded the bases with two outs before a ground ball to third base ended the inning.

The Wildcats scored their lone run in the sixth inning as Josh Recker walked and moved all the way to third base on a wild pick off attempt. He scored on a ground out by Luke Erhart.

Balbaugh allowed the one run on three hits with six strikeouts and a walk. He threw 87 pitches in picking up the win.

Balbaugh helped his own cause at the plate with three hits and two RBIs. Balbaugh had RBI doubles in the third and seventh innings to increase the Titans lead. Johns also had three hits and two RBIs in the game as he had an RBI double in O-G's two run third inning.

Recker took the loss for Kalida as he worked two innings. The Wildcats used four pitchers in the game.
