AYERSVILLE — Leipsic played good defense all night and when their offense picked up in the second half, the combination led the Vikinsg to a 32-19 win over Ayersville in the championship game of the Ayersville Holiday Tournament Friday night.

With the win, the Vikings repeated as champions of this annual holiday tournament. They are now 8-1 on the season.

Leipsic turned in a good defensive effort against the Pilots holding them to single digit scoring in every quarter, that included holding the Pilots to no points in the first quarter.

While the Vikings were playing good defense it took time for their offense to click against Ayersville. The Vikings had an 11-9 halftime lead as they opened the game with a 7-0 scoring margin. The Pilots outscored Leipsic 9-4 in the second quarter for the halftime score.

Ayersville rallied to take a 12-11 lead in the third quarter, before the Vikings regained control of the game with a 5-0 run for a 17-12 lead. Leipsic outscored the Pilots 11-4 in the third quarter before finishing the game with a 10-6 scoring margin.

Peyton Henry led the Vikings with nine points and Claire Rigel added seven points.

Ayersville hit only 18 percent of their field goal attempts in the game.

In the consolation game, Continental defeated Hilltop for their first win of the season. No score or information was given on the win.
