MILLBURY - Top ranked Ottawa-Glandorf and second ranked Liberty-Benton went toe-to-toe Saturday afternoon in the Division III regional finals at Lake High School.

The contest was nearly everything the packed gymnasium expected. In the end the Eagles talent, size and defense were too much for the Titans in a 27-25, 25-21, 25-22 setback.

Liberty-Benton advances to the Division III state semi-finals on Thursday for the first time in school history. The Titans saw their season end at 25-3.

The opening game set the tone for the afternoon as there were 13 ties before the Eagles pulled out a 27-25 win. The Titans led early 13-8 before the Eagles ran off six straight points for a 14-13 lead. O-G regained the lead at 16-15 and were up 18-16 before the Eagles rallied to go up 19-18. The Titans would fight back to take a 23-22 lead before the two teams started trading points. With the set tied 25-25,Liberty-Benton scored the next two points for a 27-25 win as a net violation on O-G gave them the win.

The second set was much of the same early as the two teams traded points and the lead. After the Titans tied the set at 12-12, the Eagles took a 15-12 lead that grew to 18-14. O-G pulled within 18-17 but were never able to get the lead as they took a three point lead and never let it get below two points before closing out the set for a 2-0 lead.

In the third set the two teams were never more than two points apart as O-G had a 21-19 lead. Liberty-Benton went on a 4-0 run to take a 23-21 lead before an O-G block made it 23-22. The Eagles scored the next two points as the match winning point came when an Titan attack sailed long of the playing surface.
